Young Composers with Arizona Philharmonic
What does “excited” sound like? How about “stubborn,” “silly,” or “surprised”? During Arizona Philharmonic’s Third Grade Composition Project, Prescott Unified School District third graders explored how composers use melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, and meter to turn feeling into music. Working with Arizona Philharmonic teaching artists and musicians, each class helped co-compose music for recorder and professional ensemble.
On Friday, May 1 at 6:30 PM, these young composers and recorder players will perform their new work, Musical Moods, with six Arizona Philharmonic musicians at Ruth Street Theater. The short, family-friendly concert includes light-hearted musical demonstrations and culminates in the students performing the piece they helped create. The concert is free, general admission, and no tickets are required. Come hear what happens when third graders listen, imagine, make choices, and bring their own music to life.
