Henry Flurry – Artistic Director
Henry Flurry, Artistic Director of Arizona Philharmonic, is a composer, performer, educator, entrepreneur, and arts-leader with over 30 years of business experience and 15 years of nonprofit experience. He was co-founder of Media Station, Inc., which created multimedia CD-ROMs for international publishers such as Disney, Hasbro, Mattel, Scholastic, Crayola, IBM, and Harper Collins. In the nonprofit world, Flurry is a co-founder of Chaparral Arts, Inc. (a non-profit supporting the performing arts in Arizona), Chaparral MusicFest, Chaparral Suzuki Academy, Prescott Camerata Singers, and Arizona Philharmonic.
His formal music training includes studies at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, Northwestern University School of Music (Bachelor of Music Composition), University of Birmingham UK (Masters of Music Composition), and the European American Musical Alliance of Paris, France. He also holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. He has served as music faculty for University of Michigan School of Music, Yavapai College, and Prescott College. He has taught piano and composition privately for over 20 years.
His orchestral compositions have been performed by the Louisiana Philharmonic, Arizona Philharmonic, Flagstaff Symphony, Sierra Vista Orchestra, West Valley Symphony, San Tan Orchestra, University City Orchestra, Orchestra Northern Arizona, Prescott POPS, and Prescott Chamber Orchestra. His choral and chamber works have been performed all over the country. Henry Flurry can be found performing across Arizona with his wife Maria Flurry in the duo Sticks and Tones and with the Americana band Doc Garvey’s Remedy.
Barbara Metz – President
Barbara Metz joined the AZ Phil board 4 years ago with the desire to support her musical passion and brings with her over 50 years of experience as a professional musician. She has enjoyed a varied career teaching at Arizona State University and from her private studio as well as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition to currently serving as AZ Phil’s president, she is the personnel manager and does the contracting for all of our fantastic musicians.
Dawn Zintel – Secretary
After working in public education and the banking industry in Canada and the US, in 1987, Dawn founded and managed The Training Alliance, Inc. until she retired in 2015. During her career, she consulted with Fortune 100 and pre-IPO companies in the US, Canada and the UK. Since the mid-80s, Dawn has served on boards of international and local professional associations and non-profits in roles such as President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.
