Community Lecture Series – manos percussion ensemble
Arizona Philharmonic is pleased to present a new interactive “lecture” series during each concert cycle for the 2024 – 2025 season.
Prior to each Sunday performance, on Saturdays at 11am at the Ruth Street Theater, Arizona Philharmonic guest artists will engage lecture participants in lively coachings, discussions, and workshops based on various musical and artistic aspects of the upcoming concert. Enjoy creating personal connections with high-caliber musicians and artists in this unique lecture series.
Questions, Answers, and Hands-On with manos percussion
Join members of the manos percussion ensemble for an engaging informal lecture conversation that delves into the intricate world of classical music through the lens of percussion.
Maria Vomlehn Flurry, Josh Ferrell, and Bensen Kwan will begin with an introduction to a variety of instruments, including the vibrant steel pan, the versatile drum set, and the innovative concept of water percussion.
Following this introduction, we will facilitate an interactive question-and-answer session, encouraging community members to express their thoughts and inquiries regarding these instruments and their roles within the classical music genre.
To culminate our experience, we will offer a hands-on exploration of both the water percussion and drum set, inviting participants to tap into their creativity and collaboratively produce music. Whether you are an accomplished musician or simply have a keen interest, this event presents a valuable opportunity to learn, engage, and enjoy the art of music-making together.
Please note this event requires a ticket, and is separate from the pre-concert talk at 2pm on Sunday, January 11th.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children for general admission.
Location is Ruth Street Theater at 11:00 am on January 11.
