We Wish You Christmas Highlights

Soprano Emily Spencer discusses highlights of the December 17, 2023 We Wish You Christmas concert. (3 minutes)

We Wish You Christmas Concert
Three sopranos and a home-grown composer.

Emily Spencer, SopranoI am excited about our December 17, 2023, 3 PM, We Wish You Christmas concert and the music being performed by these three fabulous sopranos. We presented a similar concert in December 2021, with two sold-out shows.

As I greeted audience members leaving the 2021 We Wish You Christmas concerts, many were weeping, expressing how beautiful the experience was. This year's performance will be just as beautiful.

Sarah Smith, SopranoI invite you to watch the short video above to meet Emily Spencer, one of our featured sopranos on this concert. Joining her is Sarah Smith, a well-known soloist within the Phoenix area, and Claire Penneau, who has performed solo and ensemble work across Europe. All three sopranos are members of the acclaimed Quartz Ensemble, which regularly joins Arizona Philharmonic on stage.

Claire Penneau, SopranoEmily, Sarah, and Claire will be singing classical Christmas music from across the ages. Many of these tunes will be familiar, and others may be new to you yet just as beautiful. Accompanying these three are six AZ Phil instrumentalists and special guest Steinway Artist James D'León on piano.

Mathew Lanning, ComposerPlus, here's a special detail we can be proud of... Some of you will remember Mathew Lanning as a young prodigy composer who grew up in Prescott Valley. By the time he graduated high school, he had premiered five orchestral works here, including a piano concerto that he conducted from the piano. He is now living and composing in Boston, and he arranged all of this concert's music specifically for Arizona Philharmonic. You'll hear some favorites from our 2021 concert, and a lot of fresh arrangements premiered at this year's concert.

We Wish You Christmas is one of our best-selling concerts, and we encourage you to get your tickets soon at AZPhil.org/tickets. While you are at it, consider adding two more concerts to your shopping basket and receive a 10% discount on all your tickets! We have some great shows still ahead of us.
