PEACE (PAZ) Coming This Weekend by Maria Flurry
When I was in high school, a friend gave me an album by Paul Winter. Each night, the track that soothed my ragged soul the most was Trilogy. The ambient nature sounds and improvised musical additions from the singer’s fellow musicians put me at ease. I did, indeed, lay my down burden to rest peacefully until the next day.
Recently, I get the feeling from the people I meet, my friends, and my family that people are generally carrying a heavy burden these days. Even this first festive week in December is over-full of concerts, kids’ events, year-end obligations. Our time and strength are divided. 2022 flew by and who knows what 2023 holds.
I have had foot surgery recently and my mother is almost 90 with nine decades to perfect her strong will. A friend’s health worries me, while I grieve loved ones. This week, I am performing while organizing a tour and arranging music to be performed in 2023. My poor camel does groan at the weight.
So I give myself the gift of laying down my burden at the Elks’ Theatrethis coming Sunday afternoon. New friends will join Henry and me in the audience while we turn ourselves over to the music and movement of cherished colleagues, Chris and Lena Jácome. If you've not yet met the Jácomes, I invite you to watch their short video below.
In my next email to you, I will write more about why it is a sure bet that the Jácomes will create a rich environment where a person can take a real break. Meanwhile, won’t you consider joining me to lay down your burden and feel the peace of the season? If you can't join me in Prescott on Sunday, please find your paz at the same show, this Saturday, at the Vista Center for the Arts in Surprise, AZ. All tickets are available at AZPhil.org.
Say Hello to Jácome Flamenco
A beautiful, inspiring introduction to Chris & Lena Jácome and their approach to their performances.

Host a Musician!
Would you like two free tickets to The Nutcracker Christmas Celebration at Yavapai College on December 17 or 18?
Arizona Philharmonic is looking for hosts who could offer a bedroom and a bath Dec. 14-18 (sometimes fewer days) to a musician who will be traveling from out of town to perform in this holiday concert.
This is the most difficult season to find available hosts. We ask you to consider opening your home to one of our kind and appreciative musicians.
Previous hosts have enjoyed getting to know these wonderful musicians. Musicians are responsible for their own meals and transportation. To thank you for providing accommodations two comped tickets to the show will be offered to you.
If you are available to host a musician please contact Jan Manolis at jmanolis@msn.com by Monday, November 28 with the following information: Your Name, Email, Phone, Any Pets, and Any Other Restrictions.
Thank you!
Arizona Philharmonic is grounded in a culture of kindness. From our board meetings to our rehearsals, we practice hospitality and gratitude.
We could use your help realizing our vision of professional music, community arts building, and authentic youth outreach. Let us know if you'd like to volunteer, apply for our board, or host a musician during their visit.
We invite you to join our team.
