Internationally acclaimed flamenco duo Chris & Lena Jácome team up with musicians from Arizona Philharmonic to offer a unique and unforgettable Holiday Experience. It is the spirit of PAZ (Spanish for peace) that inspires Chris Jácome’s flamenco-infused Christmas arrangements as well as original music. With Allen Ames on violin, Jeannette Moore on flute, and Ruthie Wilde on cello they will feature such Christmas favorites as Silent Night, Little Drummer Boy, and The First Noel.

Chris & Lena Jácome provide intimate, inviting and exhilarating flamenco performances that only a perfectly matched pair can manifest. Chris and Lena’s mesmerizing concerts reflect kindred spirits who share their love for each other through their art.

Their exquisitely refined, authentic and heartfelt approach to flamenco reflects years of training in Sevilla, Spain built on top of their original American musical roots and formal ballet/modern dance training. They have published nine albums, two DVDs, sheet music, and online training courses. Chris B. Jácome composes for the Jácome Flamenco touring company and has a number of orchestra, chamber ensemble, movie, and television scores to his credit.

All of the pieces are composed by Chris Burton-Jácome, except for those in italics, which are arranged by Chris Burton-Jácome.

Chris & Lena Jácome

The Jácomes have performed internationally in Mexico, Canada, Spain and Indonesia, and at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York City and the Redlands Bowl in California. They are a regular visitor to Prescott, having performed solo, chamber, and concerto concerts with Arizona Philharmonic.

Jeannette Hirasawa Moore, Flutist

Flutist Jeannette Hirasawa Moore has appeared as soloist with the Flagstaff Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Ensemble Sir Ernest MacMillan and Hart House Orchestra. Originally from Canada, Jeannette lived in Toronto where she performed as principal flute of the Toronto Pops Orchestra, Toronto Operetta Theatre, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Hamilton Philharmonic, and Toronto Philharmonic.

She received both her Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees in Performance from the University of Toronto and studied with Douglas Stewart and Robert Aitken. In 1995 she toured the Far East with The Phantom of the Opera. Jeannette has served as Principal Flute of the Flagstaff Symphony since 2013, is also principal flute of the Arizona Philharmonic and Verde Valley Sinfonietta and performs with the chamber groups Ponderosa Players, Sonoran Winds and Duo Catalina.

Ruthie Wilde, Cellist

Ruthie Wilde, an Arizona native, believes that music has the power to transform the world, and is amazed by its ability to heal people and reveal higher truths. She is Principal Cellist of the West Valley Symphony, a founding member of the Evox Ensemble, and Music Associate for Children and Youth at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church. She also serves on the board of the Arizona chapter of the American String Teachers Association and maintains a private cello teaching studio.

Ruthie is passionate about music as both a performance art and an educational art. She has been a cello instructor for nearly two decades, and before her recent move to Flagstaff was the teacher of both general music and orchestra in an elementary school setting. Prior to that she was on faculty within the Maricopa County Community College District, where she taught private lessons and led a cello ensemble, and was the founding Orchestra Director at Glendale Community College.

Ruthie is grateful to Mrs. VanWee, Jamie Kellogg, and Tom Landschoot, for investing their time and hearts into developing her as a musician through private cello instruction. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Cello Performance from Arizona State University.

Allen Ames, Violinist

Allen Ames grew up in Phoenix, began playing the violin at age nine, and has studied with Wayne Clark, Max Mandel, William Majors, Frank Spinoza, Theodora McMillan and James Buswell. He studied composition with Janne Irvine and James DeMars, and has been featured in the N.E.A’s Composers in Concert series co-sponsered by the Arizona Composers Forum. He is a member of ASCAP.

He was apprenticed to the late Carl E. Reiter in 1980 as a violin maker and is listed in Wenburg’s Violinmakers of the United States. In 1995 he developed the Violira: a six-string, five octave instrument spanning the ranges of the violin, viola, and cello.

Allen has played with orchestras and chamber ensembles including the Arizona Opera and Ballet Orchestras, Nouveau West and La Forza Chamber Orchestras, the Phoenix, Amabile and Philharmonic String Quartets, the TOS Performing Arts Ensemble, and many others. He has also played baroque violin with the Camerata Sonora, Solis Camerata, and the Phoenix Bach Choir.

Allen has played jazz since high school days, adding guitar, bass, and drums to his stable of instruments, and has performed with many iconic Phoenix jazz artists over the years. More recently he has been specializing in Gypsy swing.

Since 1985 Allen has explored a wider field of musical improvisation, playing and recording with Mosaico Flamenco, harpist Ani Williams, Klezmer legend Schlomo Carlbach, Navajo musicians Sharon Burch, R. Carlos Nakai and Mary Redhouse, and other adventurous artists. He has toured as featured soloist in twenty-two states with Three Redneck Tenors. He currently plays with Lyra, the William Eaton Ensemble, Meadowlark, Zazu, and jazz singer Vismaya Hagelberg.

Allen has taught many music appreciation courses and given pre-concert lectures for the Phoenix Symphony and the Sedona Chamber Music Festival. As a published poet, he has given many performances combining music and poetry.
