For Musicians

About Arizona Philharmonic

Peter Bay, Principal Guest Conductor

The 2024-2025 season marks the orchestra’s seventh year. AZ Phil is a professional orchestra based in Prescott, Arizona. We draw musicians from Prescott and across the Southwest to perform orchestra and chamber concerts.

Auditions for the 2024-2025 Season will be held in Katzin Concert Hall, on the Arizona State University campus on August 24 and possibly 25.

Musician-Centered

This is a musician-centered orchestra.

All rehearsals feature a hospitality table. A community meal is provided on one day of a large orchestra cycle.

Musician Compensation for 2024-2025

The instrumentalist fee schedule is $115/service for principals and $94/service for section members. In some concerts using smaller ensembles, every musician will be paid at principal rates. Rehearsals and Concerts will be paid the same per-service rate.

Cartage and doubling honorariums may be offered. Percussionists and timpanist may need to provide their own instruments for rehearsals and concerts.

We aim to increase musician pay each season, with a post-pandemic effort to at least match inflation. Since our inception in 2018, AZ Phil has increased principal pay by 15% and section pay by over 34%.

Mileage and per diem currently are not offered. To assist those traveling from out of town, we have a popular and robust host network. Also, rehearsals and concerts schedules usually are compressed into consecutive days (e.g., Thursday – Sunday). There may be two rehearsals per day.

Chamber Opportunities

Frequently, Arizona Philharmonic is invited to present small chamber concerts at various events. We seek to fill these positions with orchestra members who demonstrate strong chamber music skills.
