DESCRIPTION:Duo Catalina: Music Among the Pines\nJoin Arizona Philharmonic for an evening of chamber music at the Highlands Center for Natural History’s Kiwanis Amphitheater. Arizona Philharmonic principal flutists Jeannette Hirasawa Moore and Andrea Redcay Graves present a program that explores the remarkable versatility of the flute through music spanning more than three centuries. \nFrom Telemann\, Vivaldi\, Mozart\, Beethoven\, and Debussy to selections from Les Misérables\, Miss Saigon\, The Hobbit\, Astor Piazzolla\, and the Beatles\, the program blends classical masterworks with familiar favorites. Along the way\, you’ll hear both the traditional concert flute and the warm\, expressive alto flute\, discovering the rich variety of colors within the flute family. \nPerformed entirely without amplification\, this intimate outdoor concert lets you experience the natural sound of the instruments in one of Prescott’s most beautiful settings. The Kiwanis Amphitheater’s exceptional acoustics and forest surroundings create a uniquely close connection between performers\, audience\, and nature. \nAdmission\n\n\n$30.00 each\n\n\n\nDUO CATALINA\nFlute collaborators Jeannette Hirasawa Moore and Andrea Redcay Graves formed Duo Catalina to present two flute\, flute and alto flute\, and flute and piano works to a wide variety of audiences throughout northern and central Arizona. They were recently featured at the Scottsdale Musical Instrument Museum special exhibit “The Magical Flute” representing the Sedona Symphony. Moore and Graves have also performed at the Prescott Highland Center and Mountain Artists Guild representing the Arizona Philharmonic\, the Flagstaff Max Jerrell Community Concert Series and the a Winslow Correctional Facility Arts Capacity concerts representing the Flagstaff Symphony. Duo Catalina also enjoys playing for senior residences\, weddings\, and corporate events.

SUMMARY:From Mozart’s First Symphony to the Jupiter
DESCRIPTION:From Mozart’s First Symphony to the Jupiter\n\nMaestro Peter Bay joins Principal Timpanist Maria Flurry for an interview exploring the evolution of Mozart’s symphonic style\, culminating in Symphony No. 41\, the “Jupiter.” Using several symphonies from different points in Mozart’s career\, they will trace changes in his musical language and approach to the orchestra. Short audio excerpts will allow participants to hear those developments along the way. \nThis class is presented by Yavapai College’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and is free and open to the public. Advance registration through OLLI is required. \nAdmission \n\n\n\nFree Admission\, Registration Required\n\n\n\nPeter Bay has served as conductor of Arizona Philharmonic since 2018. He is also Music Director and Conductor of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and Resident Conductor of the Piano Texas Festival. Bay has appeared with more than 80 orchestras\, including the National\, Chicago\, St. Louis\, Houston\, Dallas\, Baltimore\, and Fort Worth symphonies\, and has held music-director posts with the Erie Philharmonic\, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra\, and several music festivals. He is also the primary conductor for Ballet Austin. \nMaria Flurry is principal timpanist of Arizona Philharmonic and also performs with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Her orchestral career has included performances with the Detroit\, Baltimore\, Spokane\, Phoenix\, Toledo\, and Annapolis orchestras\, as well as work as a guest timpanist with other ensembles. She has appeared as soloist in multiple concertos and is active in chamber music\, currently performing with Joshua Ferrell and Bensen Kwan in manos percussion and with her husband\, composer and pianist Henry Flurry\, in Sticks and Tones.
