The program spans diverse musical eras\, starting with the minimalist and spiritual tones of Arvo Pärt’s Fratres and moving through Ernest Bloch’s Baroque-inspired Concerto Grosso No. 1\, which interweaves the warmth of traditional harmonies with the richness of modern expression. Frederick Delius’s Prelude to Irmelin\, known for its lyrical beauty and serene\, fairytale atmosphere\, precedes the concert’s highlight: Nikolai Kapustin’s Piano Concerto No. 4\, Op. 56. Here\, D’León embarks on a thrilling and virtuosic ride\, blending classical precision with the spontaneous excitement of jazz. Dr. Harper’s 2024 Arizona Philharmonic and Quartz Ensemble concert received two separate standing ovations and was hailed as “breathtaking” and “exceptional\,” worthy of the “top cities and venues across the United States.” Come explore the profound emotional depth and musical intricacy of the St. John Passion through the elegance and clarity showcased by Arizona Philharmonic and Quartz Ensemble’s unique partnership. \nTenor Blake Beckemeyer thrives on exciting\, small-ensemble performances working on historical and text-driven interpretations of Baroque\, Classical\, and modern music. He returns from being the tenor Virginia Best Adams Fellow at the Carmel Bach Festival including performances as soloist with Grete Peterson and Michael Beattie. The Kiwanis Amphitheater’s beautiful acoustics offer a unique opportunity to experience classical music unamplified while outdoors. \nAdmission\n\n\n$35.00  –  Member Price\n$40.00  –  Non-Member Price\n\n\n\nSCOTT RICHARDSON\nScott Richardson is a native of Las Vegas\, Nevada.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada\, Las Vegas in 1983 where he studied with Felix Viscuglia\, former bass clarinetist of the Boston Symphony and a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California in 1986 where he studied with world-renowned clarinetist David Shifrin. Scott is a former member of the 15th Air Force Band of the Golden West from 1990-1994 and the USAF Academy Band from 1994-2014.  He has performed in orchestras and bands in Nevada\, Southern California and Colorado.  Since relocating to Prescott in 2014\, Scott performs as principal clarinet in the Verde Valley Sinfonietta\, the Arizona Philharmonic\, the Prescott Pops Symphony\, and the Prescott Chorale Orchestra.  He also performs with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra as a substitute clarinetist and regularly performs with the Yavapai College Pit Orchestra for musical productions on clarinet\, saxophone and flute.  He is happily married to his lovely wife Julie and they both enjoy fine dining\, taking care of their feline daughters\, and traveling. \nBRYN CANNON\nBryn Cannon is a performer\, teacher\, and composer based in Prescott.  She is a former viola student of Jeffrey Irvine (of the Cleveland Institute of Music) and studied with Heidi Castleman at the Eastman School of Music\, where she also played with the symphony orchestra\, Collegium Musicum baroque orchestra\, Musica Nova contemporary ensemble\, and the Eastman Jazz studio orchestra. Bryn now plays viola with the Arizona Philharmonic\, teaches violin and viola at the Granite Dells Strings Studio and at Trinity Christian School\, and has written music for viola and various chamber ensembles.  Before returning to Arizona\, Bryn lived in Seattle where she taught\, played for recording sessions\, was music coordinator at University Presbyterian Church\, and played with and composed music for Celtic bands Acoustic Cadence\, Salt\, and Third Harbour. \nBARBARA METZ\nBarbara Metz studied cello with Professor Altis Teickmanus at the Hochschtile fur Musik in Freiburg\, and then with Claus Adams and Gordon Epperson in the United States\, and currently with Jason Duckles. She has performed on cello and viola da gamba with the Phoenix Symphony\, and served as principal cellist with the Mesa Symphony\, the Phoenix Chamber Orchestra\, and the Saltmarsh Opera Company in Rhode Island. She has also performed with the Renaissance ensemble Musica Dolce\, the Phoenix Bach Choir\, Ensemble Versailles\, the Connecticut Early Music Festival\, and in solo recitals in Korea\, New York State\, Connecticut\, Florida\, Oklahoma\, and South Carolina. She and her late husband John performed widely together and published and recorded the six cello sonatas of the early American composer Rayner Taylor. Barbara also had a successful career as RN in the Maricopa County Hospital ICU Trauma Center in Phoenix. In 2004 Barbara retired from her position as Faculty Associate with the early music program at Arizona State University. She now resides year-round in Prescott with her husband Mark\, where she teaches cello and performs regularly with Arizona Philharmonic.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Joshua Harper and his professional chorus Quartz Ensemble return to Prescott to perform with  Arizona Philharmonic. \nThis concert brings together the Arizona Philharmonic and Prescott’s newest professional choir\, the Quartz Ensemble.   \nWe open with an early cantata by Bach\, followed by a passionate call for peace by the Latvian master Pēteris Vasks.  Next\, we hear a sacred cantata by Medelssohn that pays tribute to Bach in its musical form\, then a late Romantic work\, Rheinberger’s Stabat Mater: an emotional text focused on the figure of Mary in the Passion story. After intermission\, you’ll hear the choral works of Eric Whitacre that have been phenomenally popular in the last several years\, and he is represented here by his Water Night. DESCRIPTION:This program by the Sonoran Winds—comprised of principal players of Arizona Philharmonic—includes four works\, beginning with one of the quintets of Anton Reicha. These early 19th-century pieces played an important role in popularizing the woodwind quintet as an ensemble. Next is a contemporary work\, the colorful Quintet for Winds by Robert Muczyinski. The most recent work on the program\, the Four Bagatelles of Andrey Rubtsov\, is a light\, enjoyable work with several flashes of humor. To close\, we have the Early Hungarian Dances of Ferenc Farkas\, witty arrangements of 17th-century courtly dances.
