Enjoy creating personal connections with high-caliber musicians and artists in this unique lecture series. \nPlease note this event requires a ticket\, and is separate from the pre-concert talk at 2pm on Sunday.\n\nJoin Maestro Peter Bay and internationally acclaimed pianist\, James D’León\, as they showcase the exciting world of piano concerti.  \nDon’t miss out on your chance to interact and learn from Bay and D’León on stage of the Ruth Street Theater as they discuss important and varied piano concerti throughout the different periods of music history\, including a special sneak peak at the Kapustin Piano Concerto No. 4\, Op. 56\, prior to Sunday’s performance at the Echoes and Riffs season closer concert. \nThis exciting community lecture takes place on Saturday\, April 26th at 11a on stage at the Ruth Street Theater. Enjoy creating personal connections with high-caliber musicians and artists in this unique lecture series. \nQuestions\, Answers\, and Hands-On with manos percussion\nJoin members of the manos percussion ensemble for an engaging informal lecture conversation that delves into the intricate world of classical music through the lens of percussion. \nMaria Vomlehn Flurry\, Josh Ferrell\, and Bensen Kwan will begin with an introduction to a variety of instruments\, including the vibrant steel pan\, the versatile drum set\, and the innovative concept of water percussion. \nFollowing this introduction\, we will facilitate an interactive question-and-answer session\, encouraging community members to express their thoughts and inquiries regarding these instruments and their roles within the classical music genre. \nTo culminate our experience\, we will offer a hands-on exploration of both the water percussion and drum set\, inviting participants to tap into their creativity and collaboratively produce music. DESCRIPTION:The Community Lecture Series is open to any and all individuals who are interested in taking a closer look at different topics within the world of Classical music. The Saturday before each concert during the 2024 – 2025 season\, Arizona Philharmonic will host one lecture that is open to the public\, highlighting unique aspects of each concert program. This educational lecture series will be interactive\, and is sure to provide both new and long-time Classical music lovers with a variety of knowledge from our guest presenters. \nOn October 5th\, join Steinway Artist\, James D’León\, for an interactive discussion on Hearing Colors and Feeling Sounds.\nDid you ever stop to notice what senses are being affected when you listen to music? Although it seems like we simply sit\, watch\, and listen to a musical performance\, there is much more going on\, both consciously and subconsciously. In this lecture\, join International Steinway Artist James D’León as he takes you on a musical journey in which he talks about the basics of synesthesia (the ability of the brain to route sensory information through multiple unrelated senses) and hones your skills through various musical examples performed on the piano.
