Dr. Joshua Harper returns to Prescott to conduct Arizona Philharmonic and Quartz Ensemble in J. S. Bach’s St. John Passion, BWV 245, acclaimed for its vivid depiction of the Passion of Christ through dramatic narratives, reflective arias, and poignant chorales. Dr. Harper’s 2024 Arizona Philharmonic and Quartz Ensemble concert received two separate standing ovations and was hailed as “breathtaking” and “exceptional,” worthy of the “top cities and venues across the United States.” Come explore the profound emotional depth and musical intricacy of the St. John Passion through the elegance and clarity showcased by Arizona Philharmonic and Quartz Ensemble’s unique partnership.
Tenor Blake Beckemeyer thrives on exciting, small-ensemble performances working on historical and text-driven interpretations of Baroque, Classical, and modern music. He returns from being the tenor Virginia Best Adams Fellow at the Carmel Bach Festival including performances as soloist with Grete Peterson and Michael Beattie. Beckemeyer looks forward to an exciting season featuring reprising appearances at the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project, Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra’s collaboration with St. Paul’s, Apollo’s Fire’s tour of Messiah throughout the Midwest, Alkemie Viols’ collaboration with Incantare at Christmastime, and returns to Washington Bach Consort. The season features two performances of the Bach St. John Passion Evangelist & Arias with Quartz Ensemble and the Arizona Philharmonic as well as the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra and Christ Church Cathedral.
